LASERS IN LABORATORY OF LASER MICROTECHNOLOGY

Laboratory of laser microtechology is equipped many different lasers which are used mainly in laser technology applications of solid material treatment. Below is a list of them:

  • Nd:YAG laser Quanta Ray Pro 250, Spectra Physics
  • Excimer laser COMPex Pro 205F, Coherent
  • Nd:YAG laser „Valentino“ (an integral part of a laser micro-technological system)
  • Nd:YAG laser Solar W-50
  • Semiconductor laser “Bělásek”, Kvant

 

Quanta Ray Pro 250 (manufacturer Spectra Physics, Inc.)

Type of laser: pulsed laser based on Nd:YAG crystal, lamp pumped
Wavelengths: 1064 nm, 532 nm, 355 nm
Beam profile: circled ø ~10 mm, “approximately” Gauss profile

Range of parameters:
Pulse-length: ~ 20 ns
Pulse energy (maximum): ~ 300 mJ (na vlnovej dĺžke 355 nm)
Pulsing frequency: 10 Hz (+ „single shot“ regime)

Main applications of the laser:

  • ablating laser for Pulsed Laser Deposition
  • ablating laser for preparing of nanoparticles by ablation in liquid
  • surface treatment of materials

Coherent COMPex Pro 205F (manufacturer Coherent, Inc.)

Type: pulsed laser – gas active medium (composition KrF: Krypton – Florine with possibility of alternative ArF: Argon – Florine).
Wavelengths: 248 nm for KrF (or 193 nm for ArF)
Beam profile: rectangular ~ 24×12 mm, „top hat“ (flat maximum) – Fig. 4

Range of parameters:
Pulse-length: ~ 20 ns
Pulse energy (maximum): ~ 700 mJ
Pulsing frequency: 0,5 – 50 Hz (+ „single shot“ regime)

Main applications of the laser:

  • ablating laser for Pulsed Laser Deposition
  • ablating laser for preparing of nanoparticles by ablation in liquid
  • surface treatment of materials

Nd:YAG laser Valentino (a part of laser micromachining work station )

Type: diode pumped solid state Nd:YAG pulsed laser
Wavelength: 1064 nm
Beam dimensions: circular ø ~2,5 mm
Beam profile: multimode according to output power (Fig. 5)

Range of parameters:

Laser beam output can be as continuous emission (maximum power 20 W) or pulsed (AO-modulator) in kHz

Pulse lenght: ~ 100 ns
Output power (maximum): ~ 10 W (pri frekvencii 10 kHz)
Pulsing frequency: 1 – 10 kHz

Main applications of the laser (the laser is an integral part of laser micromachining work station AVANTEK LM 133-01:

  • Surface marking of materials
  • Substrates cutting / dicing

 

Solar W-50

Type: pulsed lamp pumped Nd:YAG laser.
Wavelength: 1064 nm
Beam output: multimode optical fibre (ø 0.80 mm)
Beam profile: multimode

Range of parameters:
Pulse length: 0,2 – 20 ms
Pulse energy (maximum): ~ 60 J
Pulsing frequency: 0,5 – 25 Hz (+ „single shot“ regime)
Average output power: depends on combination „ pulse energy : pulse length“ and frequency ( Fig. 7 pulse energy vs. pumping voltage and pulse length)

Main applications of the laser:

  • Laser micro-welding of thin metal sheets/li>
  • Repairing of small details
  • Hole drilling

Semiconductor laser “Bělásek”

Type: semiconductor continuous wave laser
Wavelength: 450 nm
Beam profile: rectangular ~ 10×10 mm, multimode
Maximum powe: 9 W

Main applications of the laser:

  • Light source for experiments with high speed imaging
  • Heat source in materials heat treatment experiments
  • “Remote optical effects”
